On May 28, the groundbreaking ceremony of Xingtai Steel's relocation and renewal project with a total investment of about 13.2 billion yuan was held in Wei County. With the roar of trucks, 65-year-old Xingtai Steel is heading for a new life.
Xingtai Steel is a famous enterprise of special steel wire rod at home and abroad. In the exhibition room, a dazzling array of trophies, certificates and awards testify to the brilliance of this enterprise: it has l won the first prize of National Science & Technology Progress Award, and its products are widely used in high-end fields such as automobiles, large-span bridges, railroads and mechanical hardware.
65 years after its establishment, why did Xing Steel abandon its "hometown" and spend a lot of money to move to Wei County? Zhang Yuming, chairman of Xing Steel, explained the reason: it is the choice to pursue green development.
According to the preliminary estimation by experts from Xingtai Ecology and Environment Bureau, after the completion of relocation and renewal project, the annual emission reduction of particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons will be about 36 tons, 122 tons, 240 tons and 185 tons respectively in the main city of Xingtai.
Zhang Yuming introduced that the new Xingtai Steel will adopt the international advanced short process of "melt reduction + electric furnace" to achieve green production of high-end steel. The energy consumption and emission will take the leading position in the national steel industry.
"We will continue to increase investment in technology research and development, build the largest green industrial park for deep processing of wire in the country around the extension of the industrial chain and sharing of resources." Zhang Yuming is confident about the future of Xingtai Steel.
Cui Yaopeng, secretary of the county party committee of Wei County, said he would take this opportunity to plan to build a special steel industrial cluster with an annual output value of more than 30 billion yuan, driving employment of more than 10,000 people.
